Joan of Arc
Joan of Arc (1412-31) made a huge contribution to the liberation of France from the English during the reign of Charles VII, but was subsequently taken prisoner by the English. After a trial by a French court, with the assistance of the Inquisition, she was burned at the stake at Rouen in 1431. In 1920 she was canonized as a saint. Joan of Arc is an excellent subject for a character study and has been superbly captured by Pauline Parsons in this Royal Doulton figurine HN3681. The sword, modelled from a fifteenth century example is cast in metal.
