James I was the first of England's Stuart kings; he succeeded the last Tudor monarch, Elizabeth I, in 1603 at the age of 37 when he was already ruling Scotland.

An able theologian, he ordered a new translation into english of the bible so that ordinary men and women could read and benefit from it.  The Royal Doulton modellor Douglas Tootle reflects this achievement in a magnificent limited edition figurine of James I - HN3822.
