The Boatman "Skylark" HN2417 by Royal Doulton is one of seventeen figurines belonging to the retired Sea Characters Collection. (The total of seventeen includes the two different colour schemes available in the Lobster Man.)  The Collection is still as popular as ever with collectors and includes an excellent variety of historical figures, such as Captain Cook and Officer of the Line, as well as modern day characters such as "All Aboard". 

The Boatman is a splendid, colourful figure which is full of detail. It shows a sea-faring chap busy painting lifebelts with the boat name "Skylark".  There is a much rarer version of the figurine with the name Pilot on the lifebelt which was specially commissioned by Pilot Insurance.
